There’s a good possibility that if you’ve watched any movies from the past 40 years, Sir Kenneth Branagh has appeared in at least one of them. In a decade spanning four decades, the 61-year-old actor from Belfast has been in a number of films, including Victor in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Iago in William Shakespeare’s Othello.

He co-starred with Will Smith in the 1999 Hollywood blockbuster Wild Wild West, but he is perhaps best known for his 2002 performance as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In more recent years, Kenneth has portrayed Hercule Poirot in both Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, as well as Kurt Wallander in the Wallander series.

This fall, fans of Sky Atlantic and Now will be able to see him portraying a particular deposed prime minister who is well known from the official teaser . The five-part television drama This England will only have the Academy Award winner playing Boris Johnson.

Kenneth Branagh as Boris Johnson

Kenneth will play Boris as he struggles with Covid-19, Brexit, and controversy in both his personal and professional life. He will be covered in face prosthetics and use a blonde wig to replicate the prime minister’s messy hair.

According to reports, the series is based on first-hand accounts from individuals who worked in Number 10 Downing Street, the Department of Health, the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), as well as hospitals and care facilities from all over the nation.

In contrast to the character he portrays in the show, Kenneth lives a very secluded existence in real life. He has been blissfully wed to Lindsay Brunnock, a film art director, for 18 years.

But he didn’t exactly keep his previous union with Love Actually actress Emma Thompson, which lasted from 1989 to 1995, a secret. The media frequently referred to them as the “golden couple” during their six-year union.

Emma, who played Sybill Trelawney in the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie adaption, divorced Kenneth allegedly because he had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter, who he continued to date for four years after their relationship ended.

Kenneth’s career is continuing to flourish as he currently collaborates with filmmaker Christopher Nolan on a film about American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his contribution to the creation of the atomic bomb.

In the 2017 motion picture Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan and set during World War II, Kenneth can be seen tonight on BBC Two. This evening at 8:30, Dunkirk will be broadcast.
