The Nets’ 2022–23 season began with a flop after an offseason that was overflowing with intrigue.

At the Barclays Center on Wednesday night, Brooklyn lost to Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans by a score of 22 points. With 32 points, Kevin Durant was as effective as always, while the other two members of the Nets’ “big three” struggled to start the season. Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving combined for 19 points, five turnovers, and excruciating defensive struggles. Simmons fouled out in his eagerly anticipated Brooklyn debut as well.
